Tanzania: a year after bloody election, fear of reprisals persists
Tanzania marks the first anniversary of the October 29, 2025 election, in which President Samia Suluhu Hassan won 98 percent of votes after most opposition candidates were barred. Post-election protests were brutally suppressed by security forces. Government critics remain concerned about abductions, arbitrary arrests, and politically motivated prosecutions.
