France's economy shrinks 0.1% in Q3, government warns of catastrophe

France's economy shrank 0.1% in the third quarter, bringing the country closer to recession — according to preliminary data from national statistics office Insee. Finance Minister Roland Lescure cited extreme summer heat and rising energy prices as causes, warning that without adopting a 2027 budget assuming 43 billion euros in savings, France will "hit a wall". Parliament has failed to pass a budget on time in neither 2024 nor 2025.
