"Novaya Gazeta" ceases operations: "The authorities forced us"

Editor-in-chief of independent Russian newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" Sergei Sokolov announced on Friday on YouTube that the newsroom is ceasing operations, citing pressure from Russian authorities as the reason. In September, the Kremlin designated the newspaper a "foreign agent." "Novaya Gazeta" was one of the last independent media outlets in Russia.
