Novaya Gazeta shuts down: "They killed us"

On Friday, Sergei Sokolov, editor-in-chief of Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta, announced the paper's closure, citing pressure from Russian authorities as the direct cause. The editorial staff emphasizes they did not choose to cease operations—authorities forced them into silence. Novaya Gazeta was among Russia's last independent media outlets.
