Convicted of gruesome murder, then acquitted: the Janczewski case
In 1998, a 23-year-old student Katarzyna Z. was murdered in Kraków — her flayed body was pulled from the Vistula. Robert Janczewski spent over seven years in pretrial detention, was convicted, and later was rightfully acquitted. The perpetrator has never been identified, and Janczewski — despite acquittal — continues to face actions by state institutions. He avoids publicity and tries to stay out of sight.
