Stalin ordered death of 22,000 Poles: no one was charged
After the Red Army invaded on September 17, 1939, the Soviets took thousands of Polish officers, police, and officials prisoner, holding them in camps with appalling conditions. In spring 1940, Stalin ordered their execution — nearly 22,000 shot received no charges. Wiktor Suworov describes the circumstances of this decision in his book "Bozek na glinianych nogach".
