Asian hornet near Krakow: first confirmed nest in Poland

Authorities near Krakow removed the first confirmed nest of an Asian hornet (yellow-legged) in Poland. A single colony of this predator can destroy a bee family of 80,000 individuals in a few hours. The species arrived from Asia to France in 2004 and has since halved France's bee population, with efforts to combat it costing millions of euros.
