EC wants to allocate 21.3 billion euros from unused defense loans to Ukraine

The European Commission has restored access to 21.3 billion euros from unutilized loans under the SAFE program and encourages EU governments to direct these funds toward joint defense projects with Ukraine. Kyiv faces a budget gap of 70 billion euros. Brussels cannot, however, compel member states to allocate funds this way and is counting on joint procurement rules to channel part of the funds to Ukraine.
