Scientists reduce HIV reservoir in macaques: one animal virus-free for 4 years

HIV can hide in immune cells for years, evading antiretroviral drugs and returning when treatment stops. Scientists tested a new therapeutic strategy on young macaques that significantly reduced the viral reservoir. In one animal, the virus remained undetectable in blood for four years of observation.
