Egypt convicts Mada Masr editor-in-chief, orders portal shutdown

Lina Attalah, editor-in-chief of Egypt's independent news portal Mada Masr, was briefly detained after a Cairo court convicted her of operating an unlicensed website. The court ordered the portal closed, sparking a fresh wave of international concerns about press freedom in Egypt. Mada Masr was among the last independent media outlets in the country.
