Ancient wheat discovered in Italian attic: sprouting and drought-resistant
Italian farmer Claudio Grossi from Parma found a bag of unknown seeds in his attic that, when thrown on a manure pile, sprouted. The resulting plant grew taller than any wheat variety he knew and bore seven grain heads instead of one — which reminded Grossi of the biblical pharaoh's dream from Genesis. Researchers at the University of Parma confirmed the grain's remarkable properties: drought-resistant, requiring no fertilizers or pesticides. Grossi named it "grano del miracolo" (miracle wheat), and bread baked from it proved aromatic and nutty in flavor.
