US sanctions Rwanda's defense ministry over involvement in Congo

The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on Rwanda's defense ministry over Rwanda's involvement in the conflict in eastern Congo, rich in mineral resources. Fighting continues in the region between forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo's government and rebels backed by Rwanda. The sanctions were announced despite ongoing peace efforts by the Trump administration.
