Scattering and dividing ashes in Poland is illegal and carries fines
In Poland, it is not legal to divide a deceased person's ashes or scatter them at sea, in a forest, or in the mountains — even if it was the person's last wish. According to Artur Uziębło, owner of the Mortis funeral home in Warsaw, ashes after cremation must be buried in a cemetery — in a ground grave, a walled grave, or a columbarium. Breaking the rules carries a fine, and some Poles' ideas come from foreign films and TV series where the law is different.
