Just 10 minutes using AI weakens motivation and learning ability

New research presented at a San Francisco conference shows that just 10 minutes of relying on a chatbot for simple arithmetic and reading comprehension makes people perform worse without the help and quit more often. The phenomenon is called "cognitive offloading" — outsourcing mental work to AI. According to the study's author, Carnegie Mellon doctoral student Grace Liu, the problem involves so-called "desirable difficulties" — productive effort that builds skills over time.
