Lithium-ion batteries cause rising fires in waste sorting facilities

Improper disposal of devices with lithium-ion batteries — such as phones, laptops, and electric scooters — is causing a growing number of fires in waste processing plants. This is being flagged by an expert from the Biosystem Group. Batteries damaged during sorting machine operation can ignite and lead to fires that are difficult to control.
