Australian birth attendant may face trial after patient's death

A coroner's court in Victoria state is considering referring Emily Lal's case to prosecutors over the September 2025 death of Stacey Warnecke. Warnecke gave birth at home, paying Lal 6,000 dollars for care, then went to Frankston hospital near Melbourne with postpartum bleeding and died. The court heard Lal allegedly "conditioned" pregnant women to fear hospitals, which may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
