"The Mace": how Poland's 1st Armored Division blocked the 7th German Army's escape

On the night of 19-20 August 1944, soldiers of General Stanisław Maczek's 1st Armored Division occupied hill 262 near Chambois in Normandy, which Poles called "The Mace". The seizure of this position blocked the escape route of the German 7th Army from the Falaise pocket.
