Over 10,000 centenarians in Poland: what explains their longevity?
According to the Central Statistical Office, at year's end Poland had 10,403 people aged at least 100 — 1,624 more than a year earlier and nearly two and a half times more than before. Women vastly outnumber men among centenarians (nearly three times as many). The centenarians credit their longevity to a light diet, avoiding overeating, physical work, and gardening. Researchers emphasize the role of psychological resilience, adaptation to hardship, and maintaining relationships.
