Crime in Łasków: historian on Polish-Ukrainian wartime conflict in Podkarpacie
Historian Dr. Mariusz Zajączkowski recalls that in March 1944, partisans of the Peasant Battalions and Home Army killed over 300 Ukrainian peasants in the village of Łasków near Hrubieszów — one of the most tragic episodes of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict in the Lublin region. The researcher emphasizes that the crime was the culmination of growing hostility between both communities, and both sides committed war crimes. The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance conducted searches for burial sites in October; exhumations are planned for spring.
