Slovakia votes in local elections: test for Fico's coalition

Slovakia held simultaneous local and regional elections — voters chose mayors, councillors and heads of eight self-governing regions. The vote is seen as the last popularity test for the ruling coalition of Smer-SSD, Hlas and SNS before parliamentary elections. In Bratislava, incumbent Matusz Vallo (backed by opposition) and transport minister Jozef Raż (coalition candidate) are competing for mayor. Attention is also drawn to rising support for the far-right Republika, which could count on several dozen percent support.
