Cheops ruled at least 27 years, not 20: pyramid building took longer
New archaeological discoveries suggest pharaoh Cheops reigned for at least 27–30 years, not merely 20 as previously believed. Records of work supervisor Merera, found in Wadi el-Jarf, played a key role. The longer reign means builders of the Great Pyramid at Giza did not have to lay stone blocks at the frantic pace of one every two minutes. The pyramid contains over 2.5 million blocks with an average weight of 2.5 tonnes.
