First person infected with Shamonda virus dies in France

French health authorities confirmed the first known case of human infection with Shamonda virus (SHAV) — a pathogen that primarily attacks cattle. A man with severely weakened immunity who was hospitalized in Lyon died in early October. Authorities say the virus poses no threat to the general public.
