Cold wave sweeping Europe: possible temperatures down to -17°C in the Alps

After a warm period, the atmospheric pressure system over Europe is shifting and cooler air masses are moving in. The greatest temperature contrast will appear between Central Europe and the high Alpine regions, where temperatures may drop to as low as -17°C. The cold spell will result from moving atmospheric fronts.
