Webb telescope discovers metals around black hole at Milky Way's center

The James Webb Space Telescope detected an unexpectedly large amount of heavy metals around Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at our galaxy's center. The material likely comes from supernovae that ejected elements such as oxygen, carbon, and iron into the black hole's vicinity. The discovery may help explain where Earth's heavy elements came from, but also complicates solving other puzzles about Sagittarius A*.
