Gynecologist: fishy odor signals infection, putrid smell may be life-threatening
Gynecologist Olga Jakubiak explains that a fishy smell in intimate areas may indicate bacterial vaginitis, while a yeasty smell suggests fungal infection. A putrid smell is the most dangerous and may signal a forgotten foreign body, such as a tampon, which risks toxic shock syndrome. The specialist reminds that healthy intimate areas have a mildly acidic smell, and excessive hygiene can paradoxically lead to infection.
