Government seeks to change municipal cemetery fee rules
The Ministry of Interior and Administration submitted to the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers a draft amendment to the Cemetery and Burial Act dating from 1959. New rules would allow municipalities to charge fees for using municipal cemeteries under the same terms as other municipal services — prices would be set by municipal councils. The change responds to a growing number of lawsuits: administrative courts increasingly rule that the current law permits charging only for burial and reserving a grave for the next 20 years.
