Ultrasound may ease delusions in schizophrenia

A small clinical trial found that a 10-minute session of transcranial ultrasound stimulation reduced the severity of delusions in patients with schizophrenia or related disorders for at least a week. The device placed on the head directs ultrasound waves through the skull deep into the brain, altering activity in a targeted area. The method may avoid the systemic side effects of antipsychotic medications.
