Ending hepatitis B vaccination at birth could increase infections by 83%

Research published by a team of scientists found that ending routine hepatitis B vaccination of newborns — as recommended by US Health Secretary RFK Jr. — would increase cases of chronic infection by as much as 83%. Hepatitis B passes from mother to child during birth; the vaccine given after birth effectively prevents this. Scientists warn that abandoning the program would reverse decades of progress against the disease.
