Alberta votes in referendum: stay in Canada or pursue independence?
Residents of the Canadian province of Alberta vote Monday in a referendum in which they must decide whether the province should remain part of Canada or hold a second binding vote on independence. The referendum has revealed deep divisions not only between secession supporters and opponents, but also within the separatist movement itself. The outcome could have watershed significance for the future of the Canadian federation.
