Native Americans lived in extreme climate 23,000 years ago

New research published in Science Advances suggests that the first people in North America survived drastic climate changes during the last glacial maximum (26,500–19,000 years ago). Analysis of ancient pollen preserved in rocks at White Sands National Park in New Mexico showed that humans actively used the area when temperatures rose sharply. The park contains the oldest known human footprints in both Americas, dated to 21–23,000 years ago.
