Japan launches MMX probe to collect samples from Mars moon Phobos

Japan's Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission is to launch on 19 October from Tanegashima space centre aboard an H3 rocket. The goal is to collect samples from Phobos's surface — the first samples from the Mars system delivered to Earth — and study the origin of Mars's moons. After a 10-month journey, the probe will spend approximately three years in Mars orbit.
