Russia silent on plague research facility worker's death, WHO concerned

Nearly three weeks after a worker at a Siberian plague research center died of a mysterious respiratory illness, Russian authorities have consistently refused to provide information to the World Health Organization. WHO and the international community are concerned about both the risk of an epidemic outbreak and further erosion of global pandemic prevention coordination. Plague is treatable with prompt medical intervention, but the lack of transparency sets a dangerous precedent for the future.
