84-year-old loses 60,000 zloty to grandchild scam, relative catches suspect
On Tuesday in Starachowice, an 84-year-old woman fell victim to a "grandchild" scam when a caller convinced her that her granddaughter needed 60,000 zloty for bail following a traffic accident. As the 31-year-old man from Kalisz left the property carrying a bag of cash, the woman's relative spotted him. The relative and a friend followed the scammer and detained him until police arrived. A district court ordered three months' pre-trial detention for the 31-year-old.
