Anthropic's Claude solved 25-year NSA cryptography mystery in 30 minutes
Anthropic's Claude language model determined the origin of numbers that the NSA provided in the late 1990s for the DSA digital signature standard. The numbers turned out to be neither hashes of a secret password nor carefully selected values — but rather the output of an ordinary pseudorandom number generator from the C standard library, seeded with the current date and time. Cryptographers had been unable to reach this conclusion for 25 years.
