Ombudsman challenges car forfeiture: ownership status unresolved
A district court convicted a man of driving under the influence of intoxicants and without a license, imposing a fine, a three-year driving ban, and forfeiture of the vehicle to the State Treasury. The sentence became final in March 2025. The Ombudsman has challenged the ruling, pointing out that the court failed to resolve contradictions in the defendant's statements — he claimed at one point to own the car and at another to have no assets. According to the Ombudsman, the question of ownership should have been investigated before ordering forfeiture.
