Merz vs. von der Leyen: Germany threatens to block giant EU budget

At the EU summit, Friedrich Merz, heading Europe's largest net contributor, strongly opposes the budget proposal for 2028–2034 prepared by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. A majority of the 27 member states, including Poland, support the budget. Tensions between Berlin and the rest of the EU are exceptionally high, with vast sums of EU funds at stake.
