Pentagon seeks $50 billion for mass production of combat drones

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at the AUSA conference that the Pentagon is requesting about $50 billion from a contingency fund to drastically increase stockpiles of autonomous and robotic combat systems — from thousands to millions of units. This amount is separate from the fiscal year 2027 budget, which includes an additional $53.6 billion for the Drone Dominance initiative. The initiative allocates $16.9 billion for unmanned aircraft purchases and $14.4 billion for counter-drone systems.
