Jurassic predatory bird with sickle claws discovered in China

Paleontologists in China have discovered a new species of Jurassic bird — Yuezhuornis yangyuanensis — that lived 148–150 million years ago. It was flightless, led a terrestrial life, and hunted using sharp claws, resembling a carnivorous pheasant. The fossil comes from the Zhenghe fauna assemblage in southeastern China and suggests greater diversity among early birds than previously thought.
