Caine Prize winner accused of using AI to write award-winning story

Journalist Vauhini Vara published an article in The Atlantic accusing Zimbabwean writer Simbarashe Steyn Kundizeyi of using AI to write the story "The Blue Fighter," which won the 2026 Caine Prize. The AI detection program Pangram flagged nearly the entire story as AI-generated. The award organizers confirmed they are investigating the allegations. This is the third AI suspicion case this year involving prestigious literary awards — Commonwealth Prize and Prix Goncourt faced similar issues earlier.
