Russia allocates nearly half its budget to defense, cuts social spending

Russia's 2027 budget draft allocates a record share of funds to defense and security. Regions are quietly redirecting funds previously earmarked for foster children and orphans toward war-related payments. In some areas, so-called "coffin money" — one-time compensation for families of fallen soldiers — has been cut by as much as 95 percent.
