Wrocław 1945: Churchill opposed giving the city to Poland

Winston Churchill opposed including Wrocław in Poland — according to historian Norman Davies, he declared the city would be lost by Germany only "over his dead body". Ultimately the great powers decided otherwise. In 1945 Breslau underwent forced civilian evacuation, weeks of siege and chaotic transformation into Polish Wrocław.
