1200-year-old mass grave in Latvia: victims of Viking raid

A mass grave from over 1000 years ago discovered in Latvia held six people — four men, a boy and a girl. Genetic testing revealed family ties among some of the deceased: the boy was the son of one of the men, another was a third-degree relative of a third. Three of the buried died from cuts, probably inflicted by axe or sword. Scientists suggest they may have fallen in a Viking raid, though death in a clash with a neighbouring community is also considered.
