Critical XRP Ledger bug allowed creating XRP from nothing

Researchers discovered a decade-old vulnerability in XRP Ledger that could generate billions of dollars in XRP without backing — a payment could create spendable funds without the sender financing it. After disclosure, developers released an emergency software update eliminating the flaw. The scale of potential financial losses would have been enormous if the vulnerability had been exploited maliciously earlier.
