Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovery of molecular asymmetry secret

Henri Kagan and Kenso Soai received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for explaining the phenomenon of chirality — the property that causes many molecules to exist in two mirror forms, like a left and right hand. Living organisms typically contain only one of these forms, but chemists had been unable to synthesize and isolate it. The discovery by both scientists enabled the pharmaceutical industry to produce safer drugs.
