Francis Halzen wins Physics Nobel for cosmic neutrino discovery

Belgian physicist Francis Halzen of University of Wisconsin-Madison won the Physics Nobel Prize for detecting high-energy neutrinos from cosmic space. Halzen led work on the IceCube observatory at the South Pole, which first registered extraterrestrial high-energy neutrinos. The detector is built into a massive block of ice in Antarctica.
