Former BND chief detained on espionage charges

August Hanning, former director of German intelligence service BND, has been detained on charges of espionage, attempted treason, and agent activity. In 2024, Hanning publicly accused Polish President Andrzej Duda and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of a secret agreement on blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines. The investigation involves suspicions of obtaining state secrets.
