Measles outbreak in Pennsylvania: 1,078 cases and 5 deaths, highest since 1991
The measles epidemic in Pennsylvania is the largest in the U.S. since the virus was declared eliminated in 2000—and the largest since 1991. So far there have been 1,078 cases, 207 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths (a newborn, a 6-week-old infant, an 18-year-old, a 20-year-old, and a 40-year-old). The current outbreak began in April, with 145 new cases confirmed in the past week alone.
