Martian cloud 1600 km long obeys unknown physics

The Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud (AMEC) above the Martian volcano Arsia Mons appears almost daily in Martian spring and summer, reaching lengths of roughly 1600 km before vanishing entirely within hours. New simulations show its behavior can only be explained by "exotic physics"—processes previously only theorized, never observed on Earth or elsewhere in the solar system. The cloud was first detected in 2018 by ESA's Mars Express probe.
