Megacauda sungei: largest Jurassic mammal resembled a platypus

Scientists described a new prehistoric mammal species—Megacauda sungei—in the journal "Nature," which lived in present-day Inner Mongolia (China) roughly 168–163 million years ago. The creature weighed 1–2 kg, hunted salamanders in freshwater lakes and rivers, and had a beaver-like tail. It is the largest known relative of mammals from the entire Jurassic period and the earliest known semi-aquatic mammal.
