Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to Francis Halzen for IceCube neutrino detector
Francis Halzen, a Belgian physicist known for developing the IceCube detector concept in Antarctica, received the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics. The instrument detects cosmic neutrinos — elusive particles reaching from space — using sensors buried deep in ice. Halzen was the sole laureate honored for breakthrough research on high-energy cosmic neutrinos.
